Iron infusions at BVH

Iron infusions at BVH

Tired? Run down? Puffed out? Could you have low iron?

Iron deficiency is a common issue, especially amongst women in Australia. The most common symptoms are fatigue and feeling run down. Dizziness, malaise, shortness of breath, headaches as well as many other symptoms are also associated. Checking your ferritin and hemoglobin is a simple blood test and a quick way to establish if you’re low in ferritin or anaemic.

Boosting your stores can be easy for some with diet changes and oral supplements. For others who are critically low or unable to tolerate iron supplements, there’s the option of an intramuscular injection or an iron infusion.

An iron infusion is an intravenous infusion that replenishes your iron stores rapidly over approximately thirty minutes. We now offer these at BVH with our experienced doctors and nurses who you know safely administering the infusion.

If you worry you may have low iron, or you have a confirmed ferritin less than 30 and can’t tolerate oral supplements, please call our reception to book a chat with one of our friendly GPs and consider an iron infusion at BVH.
