Flu season is upon us and now is the perfect time to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Flu vaccination is covered by Medicare (with no out of pocket costs) for those:
- aged 6 months to 17 years
- aged over 65
- who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- at any stage of pregnancy
- have certain medical conditions such as asthma, copd, diabetes, immunosuppression.
At BVH we recommend vaccination against influenza for everyone and offer both flu injections (6 months and up) and Flumist nasal spray (2-17 year olds). Private flu injections are $20.

Flumist is a needle-free, nasal spray vaccine available for children aged 2 to 17. It is available at BVH and covered by Medicare for 2 to 17 year olds. Given the longer protection and more tolerable delivery we definitely recommend this option.
